Kindergarten does not escape today’s boiling political climate in the United States (you might remember this McCain commercial?*) and I was not surprised when my five-year-old daugter told me that her class will soon hold its own presidential election. On November 4th, she will fulfill her civic duty and vote for either McCain or Obama. Although she’s not born in the United States, her teacher nicely authorized her to vote and she’s very excited to put a name in the well-decorated ballot shoebox!
In preparation of the event, she and her classmates had to make a list of what it really takes to be President of the United States. Here’s what they wrote:
1. You have to be grown-up.
2. You have to be really nice.
3. You have to be tall.
4. You have to tell the truth.
5. You have to dress very nicely and wear clean clothes every day.
6. You have to be a good writer because you have to give a lot of speeches.
7. You have to be good at math.
8. You have to be really healthy.
9. You have to brush your teeth. You don’t want to have a bad breath or have to wear wooden teeth.
10. You have to brush your hair every day.
Beside the absolute priority for a candidate with good hygiene (we are in America !), I wonder for whom she’s going to vote. It seems to me that neither candidate fits the profile!
* This misleading (not to say “negative”) commercial refers to a bill that was actually aimed at protecting children from sex predators. But this is another story…

The presidential candidates should definitely dismiss their sterile, sad and scary communication advisors and hire Apple’s advertizing agency to make their case to the American people. Not only would I understand their program much better, but more importantly, I would also have a much better time watching their ads!
Example? Just replace the words “Advertizing” by “Wall Street” and “Fix Vista” by “Fix the economy” in the Mac commercial below, and you’ll get a fantastic Obama commercial.
Steve Jobs for President!

I realize I didn’t post anything on this blog for almost a month. Not a single word. It’s not that I did not have anything to write about. Time just went by… and trees turned red. I love Pennsylvania in Fall as temperatures are still warm and vegetation turns multicolor. Green, red, yellow, orange, blue: it’s just a wonder that my meditative nature can’t help but admire, and capture, for hours. Meanwhile, no post but a lot of pictures of this beautiful land, at a beautiful time.
I know there’s also a presidential campaign going on. My political nature should have prompted me to write much more about it. Actually I watched the “debates” (in American English: two politicians talking on stage while ignoring each other) and I red the papers. But this is turning so nasty (denigration, rumors, slander, hate, etc.) that I decided not to report anything to avoid the fight (call it neutrality or blame it on my French pacifist nature).

Last, and more importantly, this fall was also a time for the kids. First grade is an exciting new challenge for my little warrior. Kindergarden is a new wonder for my little princess. Both enjoy their class, but – I like to think so – they enjoyed our fall adventures in the Pennsylvanian forest even better!
Now the leaves are falling, and the nights are getting cooler. A good time for blogging again … Rather than trying to keep the backyard clean. So keep posted!
